West Elm, the Brooklyn-based home furnishings brand, will debut West Elm Workspace, an exclusive 75+ piece collection of office furniture created in collaboration with Inscape at NeoCon in June. Designed by West Elm’s in-house design team, West Elm Workspace merges style, flexibility, comfort and affordability into four distinct collections in mid-century, industrial, contemporary, and modern styles, bringing a residential aesthetic to the office. The majority of West Elm Workspace will be manufactured in North America, and many of the pieces utilize environmentally sustainable practices and materials. The line also features high-performance fabrics by Designtex. The complete assortment will be available through a network of authorized dealers and through

“We are introducing West Elm Workspace to the market at a time when meaningful change in the way offices are designed is needed. We carefully considered how people utilize and map their space; then we set out to create a full suite of solutions for the way we work now,” said Jim Brett, West Elm president. “We will offer conducive space solutions that expand and contract when needed, providing both focused and collaborative environments. The combination of West Elm’s great design with Inscape’s technical expertise yields functional solutions with the warmth and design appeal you only expect to find at home.”

Jim Stelter, the CEO of Inscape says, “It’s exciting to be collaborating with West Elm on this type of collection.” Stelter adds, “Our goal with West Elm Workspace is to disrupt the current office furnishings model. We’re innovating for our resellers, creating a streamlined approach that focuses on the customer experience by combining new technology focused on applications with a pricing structure that is transparent and clear with value at its core.”

The West Elm Workspace collection features private offices; tables; benching systems; task, guest, occasional and lounge seating; storage; and accessories, in addition to sit-stand options and ergonomic solutions that facilitate wellness in the work environment. The collection also includes customized conference tables made in a range of finishes by Brooklyn-based, furniture designer Mark Jupiter. Fabrics by Designtex offer colorful and layered patterns favoring an eclectic mix of warm, natural materials and texture.

The four West Elm Workspace Collections are:

  • The Mid-century Collections marries classic forms with attention to detail, in warm walnut tones accented with bronze. Inspired by the golden age of American office design, the collection is forward thinking in its function. With 20+ contract-grade fabrics, the sofas and upholstered chairs bring comfort to private offices and public spaces.
  • The Modern Collection features a streamlined design that combines storage with space dividers for multi-functional floor planning and square-footage maximization. This collection’s simple materials, curved edges and swivel seating create a seamless flow between workstations, lounge areas and breakout spaces.
  • The Industrial Collection brings utilitarian workshop style to modern offices with designs in warm oak finishes that are set on steel frames. Shelving systems and case goods have a workshop-crafted feel with deep cabinets and drawers for files and devices. Workstations with built-in storage and fluted glass partitions make it simple to divide an open plan office or outfit a range of private and semi-private spaces.
  • The Contemporary Collection allows for modular configurations. Three designs -Truss, Scandi and Strata – allow flexibly in arrangements of cabinets, drawers, desks and partitions so office configurations can be customized.

Susan Lyons, President of Designtex, is, “thrilled to be working with West Elm and Inscape.” Lyons adds, “We all believe that empathy for the user and the maker is a requirement. We share a love of collaboration and a passion for textiles and materials. West Elm Workspace is the perfect blend of residential comfort and commercial performance.”

In connection with the West Elm Workspace debut, Inscape will launch F.I.R.E., a visual application aid that integrates industry-leading technology to create a single customer-centric solution unlike any other available. F.I.R.E. (or Fully Integrated Resource for Enterprise Management) will help designers and clients visualize project design solutions.
