Kilroy Realty Corporation (NYSE:KRC) announced today that it has been named the North American leader in sustainability by the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB). GRESB is widely recognized as the most rigorous standard for measuring the sustainability performance of real estate companies and funds, and GRESB participation has become standard practice for most of the world’s fund managers and listed property companies. GRESB ranked KRC first among 151 North American participants across all asset types, and fifth worldwide out of 637 total participants.

“We are thrilled to be recognized as the North American real estate leader in sustainability by GRESB. Sustainability is one of our core values and earning the Regional Sector Leader designation demonstrates to our investors and tenants that our sustainability program is best-in-class,” said John Kilroy, Jr., KRC’s Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer.

GRESB also gave KRC its Regional Sector Leader designation for ranking first among all North American office participants and awarded KRC its Green Star designation. Green Stars are top quartile performers across the GRESB’s seven categories, which include environmental, social and governance performance indicators. KRC also earned the Green Star designation in 2013.

“Sustainability at KRC creates long-term value for our shareholders, tenants and employees. Earning the Regional Sector Leader and Green Star designations is an honor and spurs us to pursue even more sustainability initiatives in the coming years,” says Sara Neff, Vice President of Sustainability at KRC.

More than 100 institutional investors, representing US $6.1 trillion of capital, use the GRESB results throughout the investment management and engagement process to optimize the risk/return profile of their real estate investments.
