Emulex I/O Connectivity Solutions Deliver Added Performance and Efficiency for New Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor E5-2600/1600 v3 Product Family-based Servers

Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) , a leader in network connectivity, monitoring and management, today announced that its OneConnect(R) family of Ethernet and Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) and LightPulse(R) Gen 5 (16Gb) Fibre Channel (FC) Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) are optimized for the next generation of servers based on the new Intel(R) Xeon(R) processor E5-2600/1600 v3 product families (formerly code-named Haswell), delivering added performance, scalability and efficiency. Emulex I/O connectivity solutions are designed to support next generation workloads such as big data analytics in-memory databases, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), and emerging compute architectures, such as network functions virtualization (NFV) for telco and OpenStack or OpenCompute-based cloud computing.

  • Increased Server Efficiency: Emulex vEngineTM storage and overlay network protocol offloads combined with the 50 percent greater core count and double the memory using the latest DDR technology in the new Intel Xeon processors, drastically increase server efficiency with the ability to support more virtual machines (VMs) or virtual desktop instances (VDIs) per server.
  • Scalable Application Performance: New Intel(R) Xeon(R) processors deliver increased PCIe device scalability, supporting more adapters per server, enabling increased I/O capacity and optimal performance for applications, such as virtualization, flash, and database management systems.
  • Improved Network Bandwidth Utilization: Emulex Virtual Network ExcelerationTM (VNeX) technology offloads the header encapsulation process of next generation overlay network protocols such as Network Virtualization using Generic Routing Encapsulation (NVGRE) and Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN), allowing customers to maintain CPU utilization thresholds and reduce CPU usage fluctuations while adding more workloads to each server in virtual networking environments.
