UnitedHealthcare Extends Relationship with Healthways to Continue Offering SilverSneakers(R) Fitness Program to Medicare Members Through 2017

UnitedHealthcare has extended its relationship with global well-being improvement leader Healthways (NASDAQ:HWAY) and its SilverSneakers(R) Fitness program through 2017 to help seniors and other members of select UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans stay active.

SilverSneakers was founded in 1992 and serves more than 11 million people nationwide through a network of more than 15,000 fitness and wellness facilities. Using proven methodologies based on more than 20 years of scientific research, SilverSneakers is designed to increase physical activity in older adults through strength training, aerobic and flexibility exercises. The program also underscores the significant link between fitness and socialization, with nearly 60 percent of SilverSneakers members participating in classes with a friend, demonstrating the value of complete emotional and physical well-being to older adults.
