Terumo Europe NV Showcases BSD Medical’s MicroThermX(R) at CIRSE
BSD Medical Corporation (NASDAQ:BSDM) announced today that Terumo Europe NV (Terumo), a wholly owned subsidy of Terumo Corporation, successfully showcased BSD’s MicroThermX(R) Microwave Ablation System (MicroThermX) at the annual Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) conference, the world’s largest and most prestigious conference in the field of minimally invasive image-guided therapies.
Terumo hosted hands-on workshops which provided physicians the opportunity to see firsthand how the MicroThermX is applicable to treating diseased soft tissue (tumors). In addition, Professors P. Chevailier (Nice/FR) and J. -Y Gaubert (Marseille/FR) presented a study on the benefits of the MicroThermX system titled, “In vivo experimental evaluation of ablation volumes obtained by microwave in the lung and liver with MicroThermX.” Finally, Terumo sponsored a presentation on the “Clinical Benefits of Multiple Antenna Application,” in which BSD’s MicroThermX system was featured.
“At CIRSE, we successfully showcased the MicroThermX and received tremendous feedback from the numerous physicians, administrators and clinical personnel in attendance,” said Sam Maravich, Vice President of International Sales and Marketing of BSD Medical. “We continue to be extremely pleased with Terumo’s implementation of its well-planned marketing strategy for the MicroThermX. Terumo’s strong focus on MicroThermX at CIRSE shows both their clinical and financial commitment to our product. We continue to see solid sales traction in Western Europe, and conferences like CIRSE will benefit Terumo’s expansion into Eastern European, African and Middle Eastern countries.”
Celebrating thirty years of innovation, education and intervention, CIRSE welcomed thousands of physicians, hospital administrators, decision makers and other delegates from over 90 countries. CIRSE was held in Glasgow, UK, on September 13-17, 2014.

About the MicroThermX Microwave Ablation System
The MicroThermX is a compact, mobile, state-of-the-art, proprietary system that includes a microwave generator, single-patient-use disposable antennas, and a thermistor-based temperature monitoring system. The innovative design of the MicroThermX is the first of its kind that allows delivery of higher power levels using a single generator.
The MicroThermX utilizes innovative synchronous phased array technology that was developed and patented by MicroThermX BSD to provide a wide range of uniform zones of ablation. The MicroThermX includes innovative, high-end disposables (SynchroWave antennas) that are used in each ablation treatment and will provide a significant ongoing revenue stream.
The soft tissue (tumor) ablation world market potential is estimated to exceed $2.3 billion. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted the Company a 510(k) clearance to market the MicroThermX for ablation of soft tissue. BSD has also received CE Marking for the MicroThermX System, which allows BSD to market the MicroThermX in Europe. CE Marking is also recognized in many countries outside of the EU, providing BSD the ability to market the MicroThermX to a number of international markets.
