Park City Group (NASDAQ:PCYG), a cloud-based software company that uses big data management to help retailers and their suppliers sell more, stock less and see everything, recently hosted a presentation by Dr. Hilary Thesmar, PHD, RD, CFS, Vice President of Food Safety at FMI (Food Marketing Institute), on FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) compliance changes currently in effect for wholesalers and retailers. The webinar, held September 12, is now available for replay.

“Under the Food Safety Modernization Act, retailers and wholesalers are legally responsible for compliance with FSMA requirements and will be responsible for the documentation demonstrating compliance of foreign supply chains,” said Thesmar. “The new regulations will heavily focus on the verification of suppliers’ records and record access, which is why we’re focused on building FSMA resources and education.”

In the webinar, Thesmar covered the breadth of documentation needed for FSMA compliance and confirmed the FDA requires all documentation be stored for a minimum of two years and must be accessible within 24 hours of request. Given this, she recommends that all wholesalers and retailers ensure they have a system to manage and retain FSMA required records prior to regulations being finalized in August 2015.

“The new FSMA requirements are very reminiscent of Sarbanes-Oxley, where legal responsibility for ensuring a company’s supply chain compliance lies with the CEO and executive management,” said Randall K. Fields, Chairman and CEO, Park City Group. “The Compliance Management System in ReposiTrak , our food safety solution, enables retention and maintenance of all the necessary compliance and verification documents that FSMA and company risk managers require.”
