PCTEL-Tested Network at Big Game Sets Records for Mobile Traffic
PCTEL, Inc. (NASDAQ:PCTI) , a leader in Performance Critical Telecom solutions, played a key role preparing wireless networks in and around University of Phoenix Stadium to withstand the record-breaking levels of wireless traffic during this year’s Big Game. PCTEL’s RFS network engineering services group assisted in network testing and optimization in the months leading up to the event.
Upgrades to the stadium’s Distributed Antenna System (DAS) boosted network capacity by as much as four times. This upfront planning proved necessary as multiple wireless carriers reported that data usage on their networks more than doubled compared to last year’s game. In total, customers of the four tier-one carriers generated approximately 7 terabytes of data in and around the stadium. That’s equivalent to uploading nearly 20 million photos to social media.

PCTEL performed DAS commissioning and system verification of all four carriers on frequencies 700, 800, 850, 1900 and 2100 MHz. PCTEL also collaborated with major carriers and tower companies to troubleshoot network issues, optimize coverage, and conduct acceptance testing.
In addition to testing at University of Phoenix Stadium, PCTEL completed projects at the city convention center, major hotels and resorts, and popular game day viewing areas. PCTEL’s network engineering services group specializes in commissioning and testing DAS and small cell networks.
