Sequans’ Cassiopeia LTE-Advanced Cat 6 Platform Powers New Devices for Linkem in Italy
LTE chipmaker Sequans Communications announced that its LTE-Advanced chipset platform, Cassiopeia, with dual-carrier aggregation and category 6 throughput capabilities, has been adopted for use in a new CPE launching on the network of Linkem, the leading provider of wireless broadband services in Italy. The new CPE supports multiple TDD and FDD bands, and inter-band and intra-band carrier aggregation.
“The carrier aggregation capability and advanced receiver performance of Sequans’ Cassiopeia platform meets a market need for us and allows us to efficiently use our spectrum to serve many customers with high capacity all across Italy,” said Rino Buccio, Linkem CTO.
The CPE is manufactured by one of Taiwan’s largest ODMs. It supports 3GPP Release 10 features, including category 6 throughput and carrier aggregation. It features dual high gain antennas for MIMO combined with powerful RF circuit design, highly integrated software, VoIP, router, and smart industrial design. It also supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and ac combined with indoor unit (IDU).
“We are pleased to contribute our technology to this powerful LTE-Advanced CPE for Linkem’s customers,” said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. “It provides very high LTE performance for many new services, starting with high speed internet access and including other advanced services such as HD video on demand and online gaming,” said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO.
Cassiopeia supports highly flexible dual carrier aggregation up to 40 MHz total bandwidth. In 30 MHz FDD, combining two channels, 10 MHz plus 20 MHz, one of the most common configurations, Cassiopeia can deliver maximum theoretical category 6 LTE throughput of up to 225 Mbps, at unprecedented price/performance levels.
Cassiopeia’s carrier aggregation capability allows the combination of any two carriers of any size up to 20 MHz each, contiguous or non-contiguous, inter-band or intra-band. Cassiopeia supports other Release 10 enhancements such as new MIMO schemes, enhanced inter-cell interference coordination (eICIC) schemes for heterogeneous networks (HetNets), and improvements to eMBMS (evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service) or LTE Broadcast. Cassiopeia features Sequans’ advanced receiver technology for improved performance. Cassiopeia can support additional optional features including envelope tracking and secure boot at customer request.
The Cassiopeia LTE-Advanced Platform comprises baseband and RF chips, a field-proven dual carrier aggregation LTE-A protocol stack, and a comprehensive software package. Cassiopeia is a member of Sequans’ StreamrichLTE product family for high performance, feature-rich LTE devices.
